When an individual presents with complaints, problems or symptoms, the clinician collects data and may examine the individual and perform or order diagnostic procedures (tests) in order to classify or identify the cause of the illness. This process may be referred to as diagnosis, and the cause or classification determined may also be called the diagnosis.
