The twelve
step spiritual recovery program founded by
Bill W. and
Dr. Bob S. after they met
in 1935 in Akron, Ohio. The movement took its name from that of the Big
Book .
"A fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and
hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others
recover from alcoholism . The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop
drinking" (from the Alcoholics Anonymous Preamble ).*
