psychological testing

Formal tests of psychological performance, functioning or symptoms are usually, but not always, administered by a specially trained psychologist in a controlled situation. They may involve the use of paper and pencil, special blocks, pictures or other articles, or use of a computer. The results can describe symptoms or personality traits, measure intelligence or cognitive impairment, or provide hypotheses about other aspects of psychological functioning.

Specific tests include:

  • Bender-Gestalt
  • Draw a Person
  • Halsted-Reitan
  • Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory-2 (MCMI-2)
  • Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2)
  • Rorschach
  • Thematic Apperception Test (TAT)
  • Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS)
