stuttering: escape behaviors


The behavioral reactions of a stutterer to release, interrupt or otherwise escape from a moment of stuttering. Since escape behaviors allow release from the unpleasant, aversive or noxious stimulus of stuttering, they are negatively reinforced and tend to persist.*
