stuttering: rate

Some clinicians refer to "speech rate" as including the number of words or syllables produced in a given time period (e.g., a speech rate of 170 words per minute or 210 syllables per minute). This measure encompasses time spent pausing and stuttering, as well the time spent in actually producing syllables. In order to assess "articulation rate," some clinicians assess the number of syllables spoken only during fluently produced utterances.*
