Revisions occur when the speaker recognizes an error and acts in an attempt
to correct it. The error may be in the way a sound is articulated, the way a
word is pronounced, the way an utterance is formulated, or when searching for
just the right word to express an intended meaning. As such, these are often
found in the disfluencies of normally
fluent speakers. Stutterers, on the
other hand, often use revisions as a form of avoidance
when designed to
prevent the occurrence of stuttering. Psycholinguists sometimes refer to this as
repair.*
