stuttering: stuttering treatment devicesA number of devices are commercially available. The purpose of these devices is to reduce the frequency of stuttering and/or to help the stutterer be fluent. Some are used independent of professional therapy and some are used in conjunction with therapy. While some clinicians and some stutterers like these devices because of the increased fluency that usually results from their use, other stutterers and clinicians argue against their use because improved fluency is "dependent" upon the device. Moreover, some clinicians and stutterers believe the resulting fluency may sound artificial, unnatural, and have only a temporary effect.*
