stuttering: stretched syllables
In order to maintain ongoingness in speaking, and to help the stutterer
integrate the components of air, voice and movement, some clinicians
encourage
the stutterer to lengthen (prolong) the production of
syllables. This can
be done either as a means of modifying the form of the
stuttering, or to help
control fluency.*
