BehaveNet® Clinical Capsule™:

forensic: independent psychiatric examination (IPE)

The treating psychiatrist ordinarily an advocate for the patient may not be in the best position to provide objective opinions to a third party about the patient's psychiatric condition. A variety of interested third parties, including the courts, employers, and insurance companies, may secure the services of a forensic psychiatrist not involved in the treatment of the "subject" to examine this individual in order to provide an independent opinion about a psychiatric condition.
