Parkinson's syndrome

Also called Parkinsonism, this syndrome implies lesions in the basal ganglia from any of several causes. James Parkinson first described this syndrome in 1817. Parkinsonian symptoms include akinesia, muscle rigidity, slow "pill-rolling" tremor, and festinating gait. Signs include "mask-like" facies and "cog-wheel rigidity."
