In Individual Psychology, this term is usually
associated with the Basic Mistakes or Interfering Ideas of the
Life-Style,
which often express polarities. Adler used the phrase,
antithetical mode of apperception, to identify the
"sharply schematizing, strongly abstracting mode of apperception" of
the neurotic, which, he said, is "something like the debit and credit
sides of bookkeeping, [admitting] no degrees in between (Adler p. 248).*
