CBT: aversive stimulus
In behavior therapy this term applies to
an event or stimulus a person will usually avoid or escape from. An aversive stimulus
suppresses behavior it follows (punishment) and increases
behavior which allows a person to escape or avoid it (negative
reinforcement).
