clinical class: antipsychotic (AP)
The term antipsychotic describes the category of drug whose original or most common use and intended therapeutic effect is to control or prevent psychiatric symptoms of psychosis or to treat mental disorders whose features include psychotic symptoms such as hallucinations and delusions.
Also: atypical antipsychotic, anti-psychotic, neuroleptic, major tranquilizer, second generation antipsychotic, serotonin-dopamine antagonist

Conventional Antipsychotics:
- Inexpensive
- May be as effective for positive symptoms as some atypical antipsychotics.
- Concomitant anticholinergics reduce EPS
