Binding is a relational mode that comes into effect (mostly covertly) in all
types of relationships. In the context of the Heidelberg model, it contrasts with the expelling mode and stands at the same time in dialectical
relationship to it. The binding mode is of particular importance within the
context of separating parents
and adolescents. Binding reflects the dominance of centripetal/centrifugal
patterns.*
