BehaveNet® Clinical Capsule™:

family psychotherapy: coherence

Coherence [Latin cohaerere, to hang together] refers to the unity of single elements in a superordinate whole. In reference to a system, the concept describes "the behavior of a system-being-self" (Dell, 1982, p.31). Dell argues that the term coherence should replace homeostasis.*
