- in Gestalt, one is more interested in needs than in wants.
Needs may be organic (to eat, sleep...) psychological, social or spiritual: the
need to be included in a group, the need to find a meaning in life, etc. (Maslow).
They are not necessarily either clearly perceived or directly expressed. The 'cycle
of needs satisfaction' is often interrupted or
disturbed and one of the aims
of Gestalt work is to identify these interruptions, blocks or distortions. (cf.
'resistances')*
