narrative psychotherapy: discourse
A set of ideas embodied as structuring statements that underlie and give
meaning to social practices, personal experience, and organizations or institutions. Discourses
often include the taken-for-granted assumptions that allow us to know how to "go
on" in social situations of all kinds. They are linguistic in nature (provided that
language is taken to include nonverbal as well as verbal practices).*
