fluent stuttering

An approach to treatment based upon the assumption the stutterer can be fluent, even though he is a "stutterer." Following desensitization to the emotional and behavioral aspects of stuttering, the person is taught to vary the old stuttering pattern and to approximate a more fluent form of stuttering. The stutterer is taught to use high stimulus speech and proprioceptive monitoring in order to modify the form of stuttering such that the visual and auditory abnormality is minimized.
