Factors related to phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics frequently have an effect on disfluency and stuttering. Linguistic difficulty with expressive language is one dimension of stress to which many children are vulnerable. Indeed, for some stutterers stuttering is an outgrowth of delayed speech and language development.
