time pressure
At the moment the stutterer is expected to speak he often has an almost panicky feeling of haste and urgency. He feels he is under "time pressure" and with no time to lose, and so he has a somewhat compulsive feeling that he must speak instantly without allowing time for deliberate and relaxed expression.
