timing devices

Attempts on the part of the stutterer to terminate a period of postponement and move forward in the utterance. Timing devices are gestural movements used for the purpose of starting or restarting the utterance. Indeed, some clinicians think of timing devices as the gestural counterpart of verbal starters.
