The term anxiolytic (or anti-anxiety) describes the category of drug whose original or most common use and intended therapeutic effect is to control or prevent the psychiatric symptom anxiety or mental disorders whose primary feature is anxiety. This term may also be used to describe the anti-anxiety effect of a treatment.
