Physicians angrily report receiving messages that Medscape has started requiring them to verify their identity through a credit bureau, just to get credit for continuing medical education. Webmd has failed to respond to my request for explanation. Try it yourself: http://www.wbmd.com/contactus.shtml. Many physicians report that recordings indicate full voicemail boxes and that they have not received responses via other media.
When Practice Fusion put us through this a few years ago to allow eprescribing we could at least see some justification. But who would fake their identity to get CME credit?
Like the specialty board maintenance of certification rackets this looks like another waste of physician time with no benefit to either patients or physicians. Adding unnecessary administrative hurtles defeats the purpose of free CME.
