deflection
-one of the 'resistances' or 'losses of ego function' (identified by the Polsters). Deflection consists of avoiding contact by rerouting the feeling towards an 'intermediate zone' of mental processes. (ideas, fantasies or daydreams), which is neither external reality nor the reality perceived by my internal being. It may therefore be an escape from the here and now into memories, plans, abstract thinking, etc. into what Perls thought of as "mind f_cking" or "bullsh_t". (_s inserted by editor)
