first interview

The first interview plays a special role in family therapy. The major goals of the first interview are (1) diagnosis; (2) motivating family members to work on their problems; (3) drawing up of a therapeutic contract; and (4) setting the course for further therapeutic intervention. The strategies employed in the initial interview depend upon the treatment model that is applied (models of family therapy).
