A functional behavior assessment has five (5) components:
- Identify and Operationally define the target behavior(s)
- Identify situations in which the behavior will and will not occur (antecedents and consequences)
- Identify the functions the behavior(s) serve/the reason the behaviors occur
- Develop hypotheses/summary statements
- Collect direct observation data to confirm or refute the hypotheses developed.
