functional behavior assessment

A functional behavior assessment has five (5) components:

  1. Identify and Operationally define the target behavior(s)
  2. Identify situations in which the behavior will and will not occur (antecedents and consequences)
  3. Identify the functions the behavior(s) serve/the reason the behaviors occur
  4. Develop hypotheses/summary statements
  5. Collect direct observation data to confirm or refute the hypotheses developed.
