An interference with vocal fold vibration often resulting from vocal misuse such as excessive laryngeal tension: often caused by yelling, shouting or other forms of vocal abuse. The vocal quality is perceived to be a combination of a harsh and breathy quality. Pitch breaks are common and the pitch is frequently too low and restricted in range.
