humanistic psychology (Gestalt glossary)

-term introduced by A. Maslow (1954): 'the Third Force'; a movement which reacted against the all-pervading hierarchical determinism of psychoanalysis on the one hand, and behaviourism on the other. From an existential point of view, humanistic psychology aims to give back to the individual full responsibility for his/her choices and to reinstate his/her spiritual values.
