The dysfunctional family role characteristic of people with narcissistic traits (usually men but occasionally women) whose mothers during childhood cast them in the role of the “man of the house” replacing a father who has failed or abandoned the family. The mother feigns helplessness, but covertly resenting being treated like a child herself, she undermines the efforts of the child too young to fill the role anyway. In adulthood, women playing the spoiler often attract them.
