monitoring

A self-observation technique in which the stutterer seeks to become highly aware of the articulatory movements of his speech, as well as other behaviors which make up his characteristic and habitual pattern of stuttering. This would include continuous self-observation of the crutches and tricks he uses in his act of stuttering.
