Linguist Morbius tells spaceship commander J.J. Adams some local history: "and when... they had abolished... insanity..." (0:50)

J.J. asks ship's doctor Ostrow, "Did you give him permission to get falling-down drunk?"
Ship's cook: "Drunk, sir? Me, sir?"
"Four pints of... proof bourbon without a trace of hangover in it." (1:10)

J.J. tells Ostrow, "Hypnotic illusions don't tear people apart." (1:19)

Ostrow explains to J.J. the source of the power on planet Altair IV: "Monsters from the id." J.J. asks, "The id? What's that?" (1:25)

J.J. asks, "Morbius, what is the id?"
"What is the id?"
Morbius: "Id! Id! Id! It's an obsolete term I'm afraid, once used to describe the elementary basis of the subconscious mind."
J.J.: "Monsters from the id."
"Monsters from the subconscious."
J.J. tells Morbius, "But like you, the Krell forgot one deadly danger, their own subconscious hate and lust for destruction."
"And so those mindless beasts of the subconscious had access to a machine that could never be shut down."
Morbius: "My poor Krell! After a million years of shining sanity..." (1:26)

Morbius tells J.J., "You're insane! (1:27)

J.J.: "We're all part monsters in our subconscious!"
"Consciously it still lacked the power to operate the great machine but your subconscious had been made strong enough!"
"Twenty years ago, when your comrades voted to return to Earth you sent your secret id out to murder them!"
"But when you thought we were a threat to your little egomaniac empire... your subconscious sent its id monster out again!"
"But now she's defying you, Morbius, and even in you, the loving father, there still exists the mindless primitive, more enraged and more inflamed with each new frustration." (1:31)

An entire civilization destroyed by the destructive force of the unrestrained id! Oh, for some intergalactic insight, an astro-psychoanalyst, to tame it!
