operant behavior

A behavior or class of behaviors that can be modified by contingent consequences. An operant behavior is one that is influenced by its environmental consequences. It may be increased or decreased in frequency, or modified in terms of its form. Those behaviors that are reinforced will increase in frequency and those which are punished will decrease in frequency.
