prevalence

Prevalence refers to the degree to which stuttering is widespread, and tells us how many people currently stutter. Although methodologies for determining prevalence have differed, and although different researchers have used slightly different definitions of stuttering, it is generally estimated that about 1% of school children stutter. Since the prevalence of stuttering decreased after puberty, the prevalence of stuttering in adults is probably somewhat lower (See incidence.)
