speech-language pathologist

( speech correctionist, speech therapist, speech clinician )
A person professionally educated in the assessment, prevention and treatment of disorders of articulation, voice, language and fluency. Although terms such as speech correctionist, speech therapist and speech clinician are frequently used, the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association prefers use of the term Speech-Language-Pathologist. Academic requirements include a master's degree and the completion of the supervised clinical fellowship year following formal academic course work, and passing a national examination.
