fragmentation (stuttering glossary)

Fragmentation refers to the breaking down, or fractionating of speech/language elements into increasingly smaller segments. Phrase repetitions are less fragmented than syllable repetitions, which are less fragmented than sound repetitions. Repetitions that are more fragmented are considered more serious "danger signs" than repetitions that are less fragmented.
