reinforcement (stuttering glossary)

In operant conditioning, the application of positive and/or negative reinforcers to increase the frequency of occurrence of a behavior. Reinforcement in stuttering therapy may be verbal or nonverbal, and may be primary (food) or secondary (verbal comments).
