hypnosis (stuttering glossary)
A state which resembles sleep but is an artificially induced state where a person is highly susceptible to suggestion. When hypnotized, a stutterer may speak freely or move more fluently than he can in his ordinary state of awareness. However, it has not been shown that suggestions made during hypnosis have any permanent effect on the stutterer's ordinary speech behavior.
