interiorized stuttering

A form of stuttering in which the overt visual and auditory abnormality is concealed, suppressed and hidden from detection. Although no overt features are observed, the stutterer pays a high price for "successfully" avoiding stuttering because of the anxiety involved in being constantly vigilant. Also called "internalized stuttering."
