physical sensation

- awareness of exteroceptive or interoceptive physical sensation (e.g. a feeling of heaviness, a knot in the stomach, a lump in the throat, etc.) is often used as the starting point for deeper work. The therapist, on his/her side, also stays attentive to his/her own physical sensations. This allows him/her to be aware of and to be informed by her/his counter-transference in the service of the client.
